The top notch school systems found in both counties are big factors contributing to why families choose to live in Fayette and Coweta Counites. Both counties have first-rate public schools with excellent academic programs, first-rate athletic departments, and great facilities. Additionally, there are numerous private schools spread across both counties.
In addition to the eighth grade Charter College & Career Academy, the Central Education Center, Winston Dowdell Academy, Burwell Academy, and Empower Virtual Program, Coweta County’s educational system consists of eight middle schools, three high schools, and eight primary schools. It serves more than 22,500 students in Coweta County. An additional gem in the crown is the system-owned Donald W. Nixon Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts, which gives Coweta County students of all ages access to the Fine Arts.
Coweta County schools consistently receive accolades for their excellence. With a 91.7% graduation percentage in 2023, it exceeded the 84.4% state norm by a considerable margin. Coweta County high school students’ average SAT score in 2023 was 1068, which was 23 points better than Georgia’s average and 65 points higher than the national average.
2023 ACT results released in October showed that the Coweta County School System’s 2023 graduates overall outscored U.S. graduates on the college entrance exam. The school system’s average composite ACT score rose to 21.3 among its 2023 graduates, compared to an overall national composite score of 19.5 and a Georgia composite score of 21.3.
In addition to conventional learning venues, the Coweta County School System provides students with personalized study plans, non-traditional instructional settings, and a range of enrichment activities both on and off school property. The Coweta County School System works with community organizations, small businesses, the Coweta County Development Authority, universities, and West Georgia Technical College to provide programs like virtual learning, online courses, work-based learning, and dual enrollment. These programs help guarantee that graduates are prepared for either admission into the workforce of the twenty- first century or postsecondary study.
The Fayette County Schools system consists of an adult community school, five high schools, five middle schools, and fourteen elementary schools. In the county, there are almost 20,000 registered pupils. Also within the school system is the Fayette LIFE Academy, which houses three nontraditional schools: Fayette Virtual Academy, Horizon Academy, and Open Campus Academy. The school system’s Center of Innovation (COI) campus offers career and technical education (CTE) courses to prepare students to be college and career ready.
The virtual academy allows students to finish classes, assignments, and projects from home, while the on-site academy provides support for one-on-one work and test taking.
The Horizon Academy welcomes students who gain from both non-traditional learning methods and structured learning environments. In a mixed learning setting, students can take control of their education and learn at their own speed.
The Career and Technical Education (CTE) center offers work-based learning, dual enrollment, and technical education. By enrolling in college classes while still in high school and receiving credit for them, dual enrollment helps high school students avoid having to repeat those courses in college. Students that complete dual enrollment are able to enroll in college after high school, with some of them potentially being classified as sophomores.
The high school graduation rate in Fayette County is 92%, significantly higher than the state average of 84.4%. Students’ average ACT and SAT scores in 2023 were 22.5 and 1132, respectively, higher above the state scores of 21.3 for the ACT and 1052 for the SAT.
Several private schools are available in Coweta and Fayette counties to accommodate students with various needs, academic strengths, and extracurricular interests. Churches and private establishments provide childcare and preschool services to county residents as well.
